How we work

Methodology and transparency

What data we use, how we score and how we make money (if we do).

Where the data comes from

We look up each experience in public sources: operator sites, booking platforms, guides and official bodies. We keep the sources and the review date. If we cannot find a reliable value we write “not stated”; we never make one up.

Our own texts and images

We write descriptions in our own words and use no third-party logos. Photos of places come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences, credited next to each one; covers and the map are our own illustrations.

How we score

Four criteria from 1 to 5, assigned by our editors with a fixed rubric. They are not user reviews.

Effort
1 = transport or passive visit; 3 = moderate activity; 5 = very demanding.
Family
5 only if there is an explicit offer for young kids or the format is ideal for them.
Weather-dependent
1 = indifferent to weather (cave, museum); 5 = cancelled in wind or rain.
Crowds
1 = quiet; 5 = very crowded in high season.

How the verdict is generated

It is automatic: it compares price, duration and scores only when both values exist. No hidden opinions or paid positions.

What “Atlas pick” means

It marks local operators we know personally and recommend. Nobody pays for it. Those listings come first when the directory is sorted by relevance, but their scores and ranking positions are unchanged and follow the same rules as everyone else.

How we make money

Being listed is free. Some booking buttons are affiliate links: if you book, the platform may pay us a commission at no cost to you. We always flag it and it never changes the scores.

Data freshness and Google ratings

Each listing carries its review date. Google ratings, when shown, come from the official API, are refreshed periodically and hidden when stale.

Built for AI search too

We publish structured data (JSON-LD), direct Q&A, semantic tables and an open feed so assistants and search engines can cite us correctly, with a link to the source.
