La Mola is a plateau ringed by cliffs over 100 m high, which sets its residents, the “molers”, apart from the rest of the island; its highest point, sa Talaiassa, stands at 195 m. The village grew around the church of the Mare de Déu del Pilar, consecrated in 1784. At the far end, the Mola lighthouse (1861) has a monolith recalling that Jules Verne set his novel “Hector Servadac” here. It was a favourite of 1960s hippies, and the craft fair in El Pilar remains as a reminder.

When you want to see the cliffs from above and the lighthouse: La Mola has hardly any beaches, so tourism remains modest.
The lighthouse is 2.5 km from the village. The cliffs are almost vertical and home to nesting virot (shearwaters); the molers once hunted them by lowering themselves down the rock.
