Church of Sant Llorenç de Balàfia

by Ajuntament de Sant Joan de Labritja · Sant Joan de Labritja

Austere 18th-century hilltop church, whitewashed with an arched porch, built to bring the parish closer to the countryside. Outside visit.

About

According to illesbalears.travel, the church was built in the 18th century on a hilltop at the initiative of Bishop Abad i Lasierra, to create rural parishes and reduce the scattering of the population. Its style is sober, without ornament and with few openings. Outside, the whitewashed walls, the arched entrance porch and a small window stand out. Inside, the plan is a Latin cross with side chapels and a barrel vault. The official address is Plaza de la Iglesia, in Sant Joan de Labritja. No hours or price are published, so here the visit counts as the outside only.
