Garroveret Tower

by Consell Insular de Formentera · Formentera

Watchtower from 1763 on a 65 m cliff at the tip of Cap de Barbaria, the island's southernmost tower. Seen from outside.

About

According to the Consell, it is an 18th-century coastal watchtower, built in 1763 and disarmed in 1824, part of the Pitiusas tower network. It is shaped like a truncated cone, about 9 m tall, on a cliff some 65 m above the sea at punta des Garroveret. It is a listed Cultural Heritage Site. You drive to the Cap de Barbaria lighthouse and then walk a few minutes; the official site recommends sunset. It says nothing about the interior, so expect to see it from the outside only. From 15 May to 15 October the 2026 ban on cars applies.
